Why the Vutter community feeds their dogs a vegan diet

During Veganuary, we asked dog owners: Why do you feed your dog a vegan diet? This question resonated with many in the comments section of our Instagram campaign, and we received numerous reasons for choosing a vegan diet for your dog. Together, we'll show that while there can be many reasons for choosing a vegan diet for dogs, they are often based on the same core values.

Warum die Vutter-Community ihre Hunde vegan ernährt

I feed my dog a vegan diet, …

… because love for animals doesn't end in the food bowl.

One of the most frequently cited reasons was a clear ethical stance. Many in our community don't differentiate between their own dog and other animals. While the dog is an integral part of the family, many don't want to kill or torture other animals. The Vutter! community agrees: Every life matters.

… because Vutter! is the first food the dog can tolerate.

Several comments made it clear that switching to Vutter! also offers health benefits. Especially for sensitive dogs, Vutter! was the first food that was truly well-tolerated for many. Whether it's intolerances or allergies: avoiding animal ingredients is essential if animal protein is not tolerated or if the dog even has an allergic reaction to it.

… because I myself am vegan.

For many, the decision begins with themselves. Those who are committed to a vegan diet want to reflect these values in their life with their dog as well.

The aim is not to impose one's own way of life on the dog, but to ensure that the dog receives all the essential nutrients it needs for a happy and healthy life.

Our community sees Vutter! as a way to put responsibility towards animals into practice in everyday life, without depriving the dog of anything.

… because his health has improved.

A particularly frequently mentioned point was the concrete health improvements associated with Vutter! Many reported that their symptoms only improved significantly after switching to Vutter!. These included less heartburn, improved allergies to animal proteins, better bowel movements, and a shinier coat.

…because Vutter! simply tastes good.

Many of you have reported that your dogs accept Vutter! with the same enthusiasm as conventional food. Taste, texture, and palatability naturally play a major role – because ultimately, the dog decides what stays in the bowl. Quite simply, because Vutter! tastes just as good to the dog as its usual meat-based food. The taste, texture, and smell of Vutter! products are just like meat, only without the meat.

… because he doesn't need meat.

Some have argued that dogs are not obligate carnivores but omnivores, and unlike wolves, are genetically adapted to convert and digest starch more efficiently. However, extensive scientific research has examined vegan dog food and concluded that a balanced vegan diet can keep dogs at least as fit and healthy as meat-based alternatives.

At the same time, many criticized conventional dog food: animal by-products, factory farming, antibiotics, and growth hormones. For many dog owners, vegan dog food is a conscious, transparent alternative – reflecting a desire for more control over what ends up in their pet's bowl.

I don't (yet) feed my dog a vegan diet, but I would like to try it.

Several members of the community shared that they haven't yet switched their dog's diet but are open to doing so. Feeding your dog a vegan diet is less complicated than you might think, and the positive experiences of others are particularly encouraging.

Everything important at a glance

Our community has many reasons for feeding their dogs a vegan diet: out of love for all animals, out of personal conviction, for health benefits such as fewer allergies or a shiny coat, because of Vutter's high digestibility, and simply because the dogs love the taste. Vegan dog food is well-researched, easy to implement, and can contribute to a long and happy life for your dog.
