What does complete feed actually mean according to FEDIAF?

Whether dry food or wet food, with or without meat - the selection of dog food on the market is huge. How do you know which one is really suitable for your dog?

No matter what you decide, one thing is important above all: your food must meet your dog's needs, i.e. cover all of his nutritional requirements. This is called a " complete feed ". This ensures that our product really does meet all of the requirements of a complete feed according to FEDIAF.

To ensure that dog food manufacturers adhere to the same requirements, the composition of high-quality food is often calculated based on feed law and FEDIAF. FEDIAF is the guideline of the European Pet Food Industry Federation. It sets recommendations for minimum or maximum limits for each nutritional value in your dog food. This ensures that an optimal, balanced complete feed is produced. If a company adheres to these limits, you can be sure that it is a complete feed that meets the needs according to FEDIAF.

The guidelines contain recommendations for the limits of, for example, trace elements, minerals, vitamins and much more. This information always refers to the latest research and is updated regularly. When buying your food, make sure that you buy a complete feed - ideally according to FEDIAF - to be sure that your dog's needs are really met and that the food is really suitable for your animal.

Especially with vegan dog food, there are many suppliers on the market who do not offer complete food, but rather so-called supplementary food. Here, it is not guaranteed that your dog can meet all of its needs with this meal alone. You usually combine supplementary food with oils or feed it in addition to raw food to meet your dog's needs. But be careful: Even with conventional dog food containing meat, you must make sure that you feed a complete food. Just because there is meat in the can does not automatically mean that your dog's needs are met.

How do we ensure that the feed is produced according to European guidelines - called FEDIAF?

We can of course say a lot. So that you can believe us without reservation, we have this checked regularly by an independent source. Firstly, SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS checks the entire value chain to assess the quality of our products: the raw materials, the packaging, the production facility and of course the end product. In addition, the wet food products are analyzed and evaluated in accordance with the European guidelines (FEDIAF) for a complete feed. This ensures that our product really does meet the requirements for a complete feed according to FEDIAF.
